President’s Tan Talk –  February 2020

President’s Tan Talk –  February

A warm and particularly humid morning greeted VRR members and friends at the February TTT.
Although rain was forecast, we maintained our record of it almost never raining during a TTT, over almost forty years.
Erecting our marquee ‘just in case’ almost guaranteed that it wouldn’t rain!!
After many international visitors at NYE and January, we had no overseas visitors this time, but did have some first-timers.

King Island Imperial 20
As has been the case for many years, this year we again have a number of VRR members heading off to run in the King Island 32k Imperial 20 Run on Sunday March 8, and we wish them well for a good run.

Hobart Run the Bridge
A couple of weeks earlier on Sunday 23 February, we have 14 VRR members running or walking the Hobart Run The Bridge 10k/5k, some of whom have been participating in this event for many years.

Good to see VRR members contributing to the Tasmanian economy by participating in these events!

Well done Graham Edwards
Congratulations were extended to Foundation VRR member Graham Edwards on winning the Hobsons Bay Running Club’s 2019 Hobo’s, the highly competitive Greenwich Cup handicap series, in a tie with another club member.
Graham apparently won against some very talented competition.

100 Tan Time Trials

Shaun Kemp 100 Tan Time Trials
Congratulations to Shaun on making a century of Tans.
A great achievement!
200 Tan Time Trials.

Paul Ban 200 Tan Time Trials.
Long-time VRR members would be aware that (to say the least) Paul “has had his share of health challenges” over his time as a VRR member, so getting through those challenges and getting back to running with us has been a very big achievement, and one that has delighted his many friends at VRR.
We’re all pleased for you Paul, well done!!

Editor’s Note
Congrats to our President
Not mentioned at the Tan was that (for the first time ever!)
VRR President, Michael recently finished first in his age group in an Olympic Distance (1500m/40k/10k) 2XU Triathlon at St Kilda.
(Michael said that Over 65 is a very small age group, but he apparently finished ahead of about 40 other participants of various ages).
VRR member, Mack Kennedy (Michael’s son) finished second overall, in a field of 430 competitors.
Well done Mack(And, she was also celebrating a birthday!)
