President’s Tan Talk –  December 2019

Welcome – A ‘perfect for running’ cool summer morning welcomed VRR members and friends to the December Tan Time Trial, including a visitor from Virginia (near Washington DC) in the USA.
No doubt our New Year’s Eve Fun Run at the Tan will see international visitors, as ever.

Tan Twelve Timers – Runners who were about to run their twelfth TTT for 2019 were advised that their Tan Twelve Timer tee-shirts were available for collection, and we congratulate all of this year’s Tan Twelve Timers (Ed. listed further on in this newsletter).
Well done!

VRR New York Marathon Finishers
It was great to see Helen Myall and Bruce Goodman celebrating their third New York City Marathons, a great effort by both (I was only in my 30’s when I did my three NYC’s and Helen and Bruce are a few years older than that.
Truly inspirational stuff
(Ed. Actually VRR had four representatives at this year’s New York Marathon, Tanya & Helen Myall’s (above) and Bruce Goodman (left), plus I’m reliably informed that there was a MYSTERY fourth VRR regular who is being very modest about his adventure (perhaps someone can let us know who he was and we’ll let you know the identity in the next edition).
Tanya’s second medal is from the Chicago Marathon which she ran three weeks after NYC.
I’m told that Helen was second overall in her age group!)

 

VERY BIG CONGRATULATIONS

 

MILESTONES
Not one, but two long-time stalwart VRR members achieved their 300th Tan Time Trial this month! (which takes many years!!!).
Patrick Herft ran his first TTT when he was 27, and is 58 as he completes his No.300.

 

Brian Toomey was 47 when he ran his first, and is now a sprightly 79, as he cruised through his 300th.

 

Big thanks to our many volunteers, who have again done a great job this year in organising the Tan Time Trials to be the relaxed, enjoyable and above all friendly events that they are.
Thanks were expressed by many members as they headed off after a run or walk, and a great brekky, and friendly conversation.
