President’s Tan Talk – November 2019
Big Milestone Day!!
Great Turn-Up: A weather forecast of a 100% likelihood of rain was not enough to keep our intrepid members and friends away from the Tan, with a great attendance, well done to all who came along.
It didn’t rain while we acknowledged the milestones detailed below, and all runners had enough running time to get warmed up before getting a bit wet.
Well done to Lynn Kisler for anticipating the rain and going to Bunnings and getting us a marquee to keep Doug’s celebratory cake (see below) nice and dry!! |

’Happy 83rd Birthday Peter Johnstone: With Kevin Browne having recently celebrated his 83rd birthday, Peter Johnstone claimed he was ‘catching up with Kevin’ in celebrating his 83rd birthday, celebrating a long-running friendly rivalry.
Happy Birthday Pete.

Milestone Achievement:.
Stephanie Armstrong: 250 Tan Time Trials.
A huge congratulations to Stephanie on achieving her 250th TTT, an awesome achievement, which of course takes more than 20 years to achieve.
Stephanie has recently worked though injury, and it’s great to see her and husband Kevin, both racking up the Tans.
Well done. |

Doug Stokes: 400 Tan Time Trials.
Speaking of huge congratulations, milestones, they don’t come any bigger than this.
Doug didn’t want any fuss made of his awesome achievement, so of course, we ignored his wishes and organised a very special cake, suitable decorated in VRR colours, and it was only fitting that Doug’s very long-time friendly rival, Peter Field, be on hand to present Doug with his trophy.
Doug joins Peter as the only members of the “400 club”.
In typical Doug fashion, he has already calculated when he will complete his 500th TTT, OMG!!!
Doug has been, and continues to be, a great contributor to the club.
Well done Doug! |
Late-breaking News: Helen Myall’s 3rd NYC Marathon:
I’m delighted to advise that Helen Myall successfully completed her third New York City Marathon on Sunday, actually finishing in a quicker time than last year, finishing in less than 6 hours, an awesome achievement for one of our ‘more senior’ runners.
Helen’s achievement is truly inspiring, and a great encouragement to all of us.
Very well done, Helen.
(Helen’s absence is of course evidenced in having many less photos than usual on our facebook page, as Helen is our photographer!!) |

The “vibe”
For those who weren’t able to be at the Tan on Saturday, it is worth noting that you missed a very enjoyable VRR event.
Undaunted by the rain, which did, very unusually, come, but not for long, there we were in “typical VRR fashion”, enjoying the friendly, welcoming “vibe” that makes our club what it is.
Good humour, easy conversation, having a run, a cuppa and some cake, everyone contributing to “the vibe” that is VRR.
Awesome!See you soon
