A friendly reminder that fees for 2025 are now due.
VRR charges a nominal membership fee as it does not receive any sponsorship but needs to cover such costs as public liability insurance (~$1,200), tea and coffee for Tans, 12 TTT and milestone tee-shirts, plaques for milestones and trophies. The Blue Bucket at the Tan for voluntary donations helps also helps to cover costs.
The membership fee for 2025 is unchanged at $20 for individuals, $10 for juniors, $40 for families (2 adults plus all children) with country members (greater than 100k from the GPO) half of these fees. Junior members are those aged under 18 years as at 1 January 2025.
Payment via EFT is preferred, to:

Alternatively, you can pay by cash (no cheques!) in a sealed envelope with your name and membership number at the Tan and pass it to me or one of the Committee. If you need one, a membership form is available at www.vrr.org.au/membership/.
See you at the Tan!
Many thanks and happy running

President’s Tan Talk – April 2025
As almost always, it was a great morning for a run around the Tan: cool, dry and still.
VRR Caps |
|
Members were advised:
- The VRR caps were on order, in both blue with white logo and white with blue logo, to cater for the differing preferences expressed by members in the recent “straw poll”. We aim to please.
- Financial members who ran both the New Year’s Eve Fun Run and January Tan had ‘earned’ their cap
- Financial members who had not run both events can qualify for a cap by completing any two of the April, May and June Tan Time Trials. Run at least two, collect your cap.
Caps will be collectable at the Tan, once they are delivered.
Angela Taylor Memorial Run / Walk
Members were reminded that the event is on next Sunday, 13 April, registration 7:30am, run start at 8:30am. VRR have been organising this event since we created it in 1989. We have a number of VRR volunteer marshals, but would appreciate a few more if possible. Contact me on 0411 191 115. We would need you at Palms Lawn, city end of Albert Park Lake at 7:30am. (Volunteers please wear your VRR fluoro t-shirt, if you own one) |

How would you like to be the policeman on the left carrying the equipment on his belt ? (protection for the (then) Commissioner – third from left) |

Highlights of VRR AGM
Our AGM was held with characteristic efficiency, with the key messages for the year being:
- Financially our year was an almost breakeven result
- We have adequate funds in the bank to sustain us going forward
- We had a good year, with some notable milestones, most notably Doug Stokes’ record-breaking 450 TTT’s
- Appreciation was expressed for the ongoing efforts of Lynn, Sally, Helen, Graham, Rod, Peter, Graham
Next year we plan to run the (very brief) AGM before the Tan Time Trial!!

PS: A typical runner’s story
The last triathlon for the 2XU Melbourne series was on Sunday 23 March, Olympic Distance at St Kilda. I figured that if I could ‘make podium’ after 3 earlier podium finishes I could maybe make podium for the series. (In a small field!) Woke up the Tuesday morning pre-race with a very swollen and painful right knee, barely able to limp, and definitely not run. Typical runner’s story. Went to the physio, knee was pushed and pulled in all directions, declared structurally sound, but taped up, prescribed anti-inflammatories and crossed-fingers. By the day before the race I still hadn’t been able to run, but (for no logical reason) remained hopeful.
Swim and bike legs went OK…would I be able to run??? Turned out I could, won the race, my first win for the season, managed second for the season, see pics below. (And then, typical runner’s story, my knee got inflamed again, which lasted another week. Fingers crossed it now stays fixed!) |

Can you ask your running friends if they are receiving their email copy of Stride Out.
If they aren’t, can you get them to send me an email (gprossor@bigpond.net.au) asking to be put on the distribution list. |
