President’s Tan Talk – January 2025
The New Year’s Eve Tan Fun Run combined with the January Time Trial provided a great opportunity for VRR members and friends to combine their last run of 2024 with their first run of 2025, with the added incentive of a free Victorian Road Runners cap for anyone who completed both runs. A number of runners took up the challenge on what proved to be two very good mornings to run the Tan.
As is always the case, we had some interstate and overseas visitors at the New Year’s Eve Run, from Bordeaux, South Africa (via England), from Africa, Brazil, and more locally from Brisbane, a couple of whom returned for the January TTT. Runners’ spot prize priorities at NYE again proved that ‘guilt free’ chocolate ranks ahead of drink bottles and running socks at this time of year!!
At the January Tan Time Trial we had two significant milestoners kick off the year in style with Mick Wilson achieving 100 Time Time Trials, and Kevin Armstrong cracking 350 Tan Time Trials, putting him just a little over 100 behind legendary Doug Stokes’s recent 450 TTT’s.
As one year ends and another starts it is appropriate to acknowledge Helen Myall (photos), Graham Prossor (Stride Out and Scribe), Lynn Kisler (permits and much else), Peter Nicol (Scribe), Rod Opie (Results and Records), Graham Edwards (Records), Sally Browne (Food and Drink) and Rowan Cole (Treasurer), for their great efforts in making staging the Tan look effortless.

| The 2024 NYE event attracted a good mix of VRR members and ‘first timers’ – with the usual sprinkling of overseas and interstate visitors. |

As usual, the NYE event was finished off with refreshments and the awarding of spot prizes.
The Dimitrovici family looks to have been extra lucky in the draw!.
Young Jordan was the first finisher in the 4km event in 16.41 and then fronted up for the January TTT on the following Saturday and took out the 4km there in 16.35.

Both the NYE’s and TTT events enjoyed great weather – yes the temperature was increasing for the TTT but we got in ahead of the heat.
