President’s Tan Talk – August 2026

On a cold, dry, no-rain morning it was a great morning for a run.
Sometimes milestone TTT runs are like Melbourne trams: none come for a while, then a bunch of them all come at once!!!.

Congratulations to Karen Monohan, who joined VRR in 2008, who might have thought that her impressive 150 Tan Time Trial milestone achievement would have been the biggest achievement of the day. But no, as impressive as it was, Geoff Wheeler, who joined VRR back in 1986, has clocked up 300 Tan Time Trials, well done Geoff. However, as impressive as that is, Michael Musgrove, who joined VRR in 1996, clocked up 350 Tan Time Trials at the August TTT!!

What a remarkable day for milestone achievements!! In fact, as those who were there may recall, all of those achievements were eclipsed by Graham Edwards clocking up 400 Tan Time Trials, but he requested a deferral of his milestone to September, so that family members can share in the celebration, which we happily agreed to.

At the other end of the spectrum was Indy Lingam, who ran his first ever Tan Time Trial.

Thanks as always to Helen Myall for capturing all of these significant moments.

See you in September for Graham Edwards’ 400th TTT,

Michael

Indy Lingam was a first timer at the August Tan Time Trial.
Indy had dropped his daughter off at the rowing sheds and was walking on the Tan and saw us setting up.
Hopefully, we’ll see you again, Indy.
Welcome back, Tarquin Oehr.
Tarquin and his family make an annual visit to France.
Arriving back in Melbourne was a bit of a shock, going from 40c to 3c within a day or so.

VRR member, Steve Harris (R) brought his mate, Ben Ryder (L) along for a Time Trial.
Welcome, Ben.

Stephanie Armstrong was prepared for the cold morning.
Dean Andrews knees look a bit pink from the cold!

Mal Healy actually managed to work up a sweat!
