President’s Tan Talk – June 2026
On a perfect early winter’s morning, and on a long weekend when some VRR members were apparently off celebrating the King’s birthday (not that it actually was his birthday, or his mum’s when she was Queen!!) we were delighted to have around 50 participants run or walk the Tan Time Trial, including some first timers.
We were again treated to focaccias courtesy of City Precinct, as detailed below, many thanks for spoiling VRR members, no doubt much enjoyed.
Some photos from this year’s very well attended Angela Taylor Run / Walk missed the Stride Out deadline last month, and are included this month, notably one photo featuring VRR members Garry Turner and Liz Wrigley. This month Garry left his VRR cap at home and I barely recognised him without it!! He looks very different.
Well done as ever to Helen Myall for this month’s great photos, notably including Stephen Barker sporting his latest achievement, his Griffin t-shirt for having completed 10 Canberra Marathons. Inspiring stuff, Spartan and Griffin!
The inclusion of my (very minor) triathlon award is simply to demonstrate that yes, I do actually still run (and swim and cycle), which most VRR members have never seen me do. I ran my last Tan Time Trial about 30 years ago!!
See you next month,
Michael Kennedy,
VRR President |

| The photos below are just a few of the ones posted on facebook by the club photographer, Helen Myall (thanks heaps, Helen) |

Start of the June 2026 TTT
( 48 participants in total + a few non members who didn’t record their times) |
|
|
Stephen Barker was keen to display his newly acquired Canberra Marathon ‘Griffin’ singlet.
The Griffin status is earned after completing 10 Canberra Marathons.
So Stephen is now both a Griffin and a Spartan. |
|
| Debra Robb is a regular TTT participant – rain (although, it never rains during a TTT), hail or shine. |
|
|
| Sasha Dimitrovici and her mum, brother and occasionally, other family members have run with us a few times now. Welcome! |
|
| Leigh Fatchen is another one of our regulars. |
|
|
| Terry Martin enjoys walking the Tan and that’s exactly what our club is all about – setting your own pace (although Terry’s stride looks quite fast). |
|
VRR member #1, Greig McEwan is always very easy to locate on the results sheets.
Greig is a founding member of VRR and the club’s first president. |

As we mentioned last month, the annual Angela Taylor Run/Walk raising funds for the Police Blue Ribbon Foundation was held on the 3rd of May.
We acknowledged the VRR volunteers who helped at the event in last month’s Stride Out, but just to round out this major VRR event, here are a couple more photos of the event.
L to R
- VRR President, Michael Kennedy briefs the 1,100 participants.
- Some of the participants including VRR members, Gary Turner & Liz Wrigley (RHS of photo)
- Mike Bush, Chief Commissioner of Vic Police with Angela’s parents, Marilyn & Arthur and Mark Stone, Chair of Blue Ribbon.
- Officials at the starting line.

| VRR have received sponsorship over the past couple of months from City Precinct.
City Precinct is a business network for small & medium sized businesses in the postcode 3000, funded by The City of Melbourne.
As membership of City Precinct costs only $100, its membership is really diverse – cafes, tour operators, artists, milliners, jewelers etc.
In particular, VRR has benefited from the support of City Precinct member, Brunetti Oro 1956 located at 250 Flinders Lane in the city. Brunetti Oro and City Precinct have supplied the focaccias that we have been enjoying after the last couple of events.
City Precinct are also promoting VRR to their members on their website.
If any VRR member operates a business in the CBD then please consider joining this business network.

Can you ask your running friends if they are receiving their email copy of Stride Out.
If they aren’t, can you get them to send me an email (gprossor@bigpond.net.au) asking to be put on the distribution list. |
