President’s Tan Talk –  June 2018

A beautiful clear morning greeted VRR members and friends back to the Swan Street bridge start/finish for the first winter Tan Time Trial for 2018.
It was great to see some young members of Inclusive Sports Training back running with us after their group visit in May, we welcome you back as regulars.

Big Morning for Steve Barkers.
Both of our Steve Barkers were in the news this month (see photos below):
Stephen Barker (older Steve) was ‘wished well’ for his 10th trip to South Africa next Sunday to run in the Comrades Run.
Steve doesn’t expect to finish the entire 90+ km run, but he’ll run until he can’t run any further and happily catch the ‘sag’ wagon the rest of the way.
Good luck Steve!
Steven Barker (younger Steve)
was congratulated on completing his 250th Tan Time Trial, a truly awesome achievement.
Steven always looks like he’s enjoying his run more than Stephen.
(Then again, just about everyone looks like they’re enjoying their run more than Stephen, but in fact he loves running, he just doesn’t look (or sound) like it!!

Everyone was reminded that our Woodlands 5k/10k run is on Sunday 24th June.
The Woodlands course is a great one with beautiful surroundings, complete with kangaroos, out near the airport.
An 8am start, you’ll love it.
A welcome was extended to VRR member, Alice Oehr’s friend and photographer Ben.
Alice and Ben are preparing an article about VRR for Good Sport magazine, hopefully we’ll publish the article in Stride Out when it’s available.
Many thanks to all the volunteers who do what they do so that Tan Time Trials can happen, your efforts are greatly appreciated.
Cheers,

Michael Kennedy
VRR President
