President’s Tan Talk – May 2026

It was a big weekend for Victorian Road Runners, with a special guestspecial food treats and a 400 Tan Time Trial milestone achievement on Saturday, and 1,100 participants in the 37th Angela Taylor Memorial Run / Walk on Sunday.

At the May Tan time Trial on Saturday we welcomed Councilor Gladys Liu from Melbourne City Council, and post-run enjoyed special focaccia provided by Brunetti Oro, courtesy of City Precinct, a networking group associated with Council. Thanks to Phil Gao for organising the brekky and the visit, both of which made the May TTT a special event.

It was great to celebrate Helen Myall’s 400th Tan Time Trial on Saturday, a huge achievement, all the more so when you consider that a significant proportion of Helen’s TTT’s have been run early morning, so that she could then take all those great photos that we all enjoy each month, congratulations and many thanks to Helen.

In typical Helen fashion she backed up on Sunday with a number of VRR members to help marshal the 1,100 participants in the 37th Angela Taylor Memorial Run / Walk, which Victorian Road Runners initiated in 1989, after the death on duty of young Constable Angela Rose Taylor following the Russell Street bombing. Victoria Police Chief Commissioner Mike Bush and Victoria Police Blue Ribbon Foundation Chair Mark Stone acknowledged VRR’s work in initiating the event and conducting it every year since. The event was featured in Sunday evening’s Channel 9 News.

Many thanks to Brian O’Dea, Kevin and Stephanie Armstrong, Russell Bulman, Peter Battrick, Greig McEwan, Anthony Doran, Doug Adeney, Helen Myall and (as always) Bill Noonan for guiding the huge number of participants safely around the 5km and 10km event.

See you next Month,

Michael Kennedy,

VRR welcomed City of Melbourne councilor, Gladys Liu to the May TTT.
She certainly seemed to enjoy it and we were grateful that she came to learn about our club.
Thanks Grant Padula for looking after Gladys.

Sally Browne showing off the Bunetti Oro focaccia’s that City Precinct kindly donated to today’s event. – Yum.

We haven’t seen Chris Grafen for a while so it was great to see him today.
The May TTT was held in conjunction with City Precinct which is a City of Melbourne business association for small/medium sized enterprises.
Sue Saunders is a member of City Precinct and she and a number of other members of the association attended our event .

Nick Main is one of our regulars and always puts in a good time.
We’ve mentioned in the past that Karen Travill and her husband travel the world running marathons. – how lucky are they!
